Last year, VDW featured over 111 programs under the theme “Impact,” with more than 380 designers sharing their innovative ideas through workshops, talks, and installations. This year, the focus shifts from growth to depth, with local designers taking the lead in shaping the program. First of all, did you know what is Vancouver Design Week (VDW)? It is a collaborative platform, a call to action and an invitation to us all to immerse in design and its transformative potential. VDW’s city-wide festival connects and celebrates our city’s creative capital through a week-long program of design events and experiences.

Last year, VDW featured 111 programs and events which explored the theme of “Impact.” Over 7 days, more than 380 designers showcased innovative work, convened workshops and talks, and organized activations and exhibitions to connect with the community.

This year, the strategy for VDW is not to grow bigger, but deeper – engaging the designers of our community to co-direct and co-curate a more potent program which challenges our thinking and ideas about design.

Vancouver Design Week team believes in the problem-solving capabilities of designers. Regardless of their specialization, they are essential in shaping a better future. VDW offers a city-wide platform (which extends to satellite communities within Metro Vancouver) to connect, educate, and inspire—empowering individual and collective agency.

A curiosity: Vancouver Design Week is an initiative of Vancouver Design Foundation (VDF) – a non-profit organization which works to further Vancouver region’s design value and impact while helping to define our authentic design identity. They reinforce the city’s design ecosystem and focus on four key areas: social innovation, creativity and culture, the built environment, and public engagement. They deliver partner-funded programs and campaign to raise awareness of the value of design.
