Recently, to help rhinoplasty doctors better learn and understand the shape and proportion of the nose, Dr. Hernan Chinski and product developer Ricardo Lerch created a new product with 3D printing and 3D software. They first determined the proportion of an ideal nose and its relationship to the face, and then used these ratios and relationships and Sculptris to design a 3D model of a perfect nose, which was then printed out using an open source 3D printer . After 3D printed a 3D model of the ideal nose, they then printed the model for five common noses that people often required to be shaped. Finally, they printed a total of six different nose models that could be used in the nose surgeon's office to benefit both the doctor and the patient. The price of the entire model is $300. Doctors can study these models for better anatomy and proportionality, and patients can better understand the characteristics of the nose and what the reshaped nose looks like on its face. The next goal of Chinski and Lerch is to design and 3D print the nose with cartilage and bone for surgical training purposes.
