Nestled in a breathtaking desert landscape, the Mesa at Amangiri consists of 36 villas designed to provide access to the amenities and services of the nearby Amangiri Resort. These modern structures harmonize with their surroundings through their low-profile design and the use of materials, colors, and textures that echo the natural environment. Each villa features dramatic masonry walls and a shaded entrance courtyard, creating airy and interconnected spaces. The architecture facilitates seamless transitions between indoor and outdoor living areas, with living and dining rooms opening up entirely to expansive pool terraces and panoramic views, while the bedrooms open onto private gardens offering more intimate vistas.
Park House is an eight-story luxury condominium located in West Chelsea, featuring ten apartments, including two duplex penthouses with rooftop terraces, alongside ground-level retail. The 26,000-square-foot building, developed by Brantwood Capital, is designed to blend seamlessly with the predominantly residential and art gallery district of the neighborhood. Situated on 10th Avenue near the High Line, the building's brick facade reflects the area's historical roots as a residential community of brownstones and row houses. Glazed brick distinguishes the new construction from the existing structure.
Positioned west of Vail within the White River National Forest, this 12,000-square-foot residence is oriented towards a newly created pond and the stunning views of the surrounding Gore Range and New York Mountain. The house is designed as a series of smaller volumes centered around a courtyard, creating an intimate contrast to the grandeur of the surrounding mountains. Circulation paths are arranged along the courtyard's perimeter, with the main living spaces opening directly from the corridor. The integration of indoor and outdoor spaces blurs the boundaries between architecture and nature. Each section of the house serves a distinct function and employs varied materials, such as local copper, fieldstone, log siding, and beetle-kill pine, reinforcing the connection between the building and its alpine setting.
Selldorf Architects is collaborating with Diamond Schmitt and Two Row Architect on the expansion of the Art Gallery of Ontario to accommodate its growing collection of modern and contemporary art. The expansion will add approximately 50,000 square feet, mostly in gallery space, to the existing building. The new construction will be located above the current loading dock, connecting the AGO with the Ontario College of Art and Design. The previous expansion, completed in 2008 under the direction of architect Frank Gehry, added 97,000 square feet. This is part of a series of renovations and expansions since the gallery's inception in 1817. The current project aims for Net Zero Carbon certification, positioning it among the few museums worldwide to achieve this sustainability goal.
The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD), originally established in La Jolla, finds its origins in the modern oceanfront home of philanthropist Ellen Browning Scripps, built in 1916 by Irving Gill. In 2014, Selldorf Architects was commissioned to design a new structure that would enhance the museum's facilities for art and visitors. The updated plan involves renovating 28,000 square feet of existing spaces and adding 46,400 square feet of new construction, effectively doubling the museum's footprint. Selldorf Architects' redesign introduces more gallery space, a more inviting and clear entrance, and greater coherence across the site, strengthening the museum's connection to its scenic coastal location.
Set on a 13-acre wooded property, this private residence embodies a harmonious blend of art and nature. The owner's extensive collection of contemporary art is showcased throughout the house, with specific galleries dedicated to displaying select pieces. Organized around a central open-air courtyard, the two-story, light-filled home follows a tripartite layout. The most public areas, such as the living room and dining room, span the full length of the southern facade, featuring floor-to-ceiling doors and windows that overlook a terrace, swimming pool, and natural pond.
