3D printing pen makes the picture stand up

On February 20th, Boston startup WobbleWorks launched a project on the crowdfunding website Kickstarter to raise funds for the "3Doodler", which is known as the world's first 3D printing pen.

WobbleWorks' two founders, Peter Dilworth and Maxwell Bogue, had originally raised funding of US $ 30,000, but to date, the actual funding on Kickstarter has reached US $ 413,000 , More than ten times as expected.

This "3Doodler" is the world's first 3D printing pen, and the material used is the same as many 3D printers, which are all ABS plastic. The product designer said on the website: "If you can raise your hand and copy a graphic in the air, you can use this product."

According to Tilworth and Berg, the 3Doodler is easy to use. Users simply plug it into a power outlet and after a few minutes they start to "draw" whatever they want.

3Doodler can print basic 3D shapes and models, as well as jewelry, pendants, decorations and other items. According to the introduction of 3Doodler's financing project on Kickstarter: "3Doodler can be used on almost any surface, such as plastic, allowing users to print out personalized items such as iPhone protective cases. You can even use 3Doodler for minor repair work."

The internal structure of 3Doodler is actually very simple, but the principle behind it is quite smart. The product removes the thermal extrusion head from the 3D printer, and then integrates it into a separate device. A single piece of plastic enters from the end of the device, passes through the body of the pen and is melted, then pours out from the tip of the pen. It solidifies completely in a short period of time and sets its shape. However, the temperature of the 3Doodler pen tip during use will be as high as 518 degrees Fahrenheit (about 270 degrees Celsius), so this product is not suitable for children.

Tilworth and Berg also announced that WobbleWorks has established a collaboration with designers of online crafts sales website Etsy. This cooperation is mainly to show users the super power of 3Doodler printing pen. Those who have invested more than $ 25 will be fortunate to receive a 3D work produced by Etsy artists BudBullivant and Ruth Jensen.
