Japanese low-noise supersonic passenger plane test machine unveiled

Editor ’s note: A test machine for a low-noise supersonic passenger aircraft led by the Japan Aerospace Research and Development Agency was recently unveiled at Fuji Heavy Industries ’factory in Utsunomiya City. According to the plan, the test machine will conduct its first flight test in Sweden this summer .

According to the Japan Aerospace Research and Development Agency (JAXA) at the Fuji Heavy Industries Plant in Utsunomiya City, Japan's first domestically made low-noise passenger plane called "Dream Supersonic Passenger Plane" was unveiled.

In the summer of 2013, JAXA plans to conduct supersonic taxiing experiments on this passenger aircraft in Sweden, allowing the balloon to fall from a height of 30 kilometers. With the change of gravity, the test machine can reach a supersonic speed of Mach 13. Due to the serious damage caused by the collision with the ground, this test machine can no longer be used.

A supersonic aircraft produces shock waves in the air during flight, producing a huge sound called a sonic boom. To overcome this problem, the Aerospace Research and Development Agency invested 450 million yen (about 4.46 million US dollars) to develop low-noise supersonic aircraft.

The newly unveiled test machine is made of aluminum alloy, with a total length of about 8 meters, a maximum body diameter of about 50 cm, and a weight of about one ton. The nose is a slender pointed head. The shape of the main wing and tail wing is used to suppress sound generation. the design of. The test machine is also equipped with flight control devices and communication equipment.

In addition, the disclosed test aircraft also has built-in flight control equipment and communication equipment, which is a highly competitive supersonic passenger aircraft.

The Aerospace Research and Development Agency predicts that if the technology of low-noise supersonic passenger aircraft becomes mature, the noise of commercial supersonic passenger aircraft manufactured using this technology will be only a quarter of the Concorde supersonic passenger aircraft that has been grounded.

According to the plan, this summer, the test aircraft will be "flyed" by a balloon to a height of about 30 kilometers above the ground in Sweden. At that time, the test machine will use gravity to glide at a supersonic speed of Mach 1.3. Because it will be damaged after hitting the ground, the flight of the test machine is one-time.
